The mission of Tap Overload is to provide a creative environment where talented young artists of different backgrounds are encouraged to perform and choreograph with the promotion of the future of Tap Dance as the main goal. Tap is a very versatile art form because it is a dance that you can hear as well as see, and thus there are many new avenues that still have yet to be explored.
Tap overload is not only invested in promoting the future of tap dance, but in preserving its past as well. With the help of Dianne Walker, in 2006 Tap Overload premiered the three part suite: A Tribute to Leon Collins which included Routine #1, Dianne’s Medley and A Waltz Among Friends. Leon Collins was a great tap dancer who taught and inspired Dianne Walker as well as countless others. Dianne Walker likewise now inspires tap dancers all around the world. It was with great pleasure and appreciation that Tap Overload performed a tribute to her mentor. Performing this piece has inspired a new direction for the company.
Tap Overload is currently working on its Preservation of the Masters of Tap Project which strives to honor the great tap dancers who have come before us by keeping their voices alive. The company plans to learn and perform the works of many tap masters in hopes of bringing a little piece of their magic to the stage once again and preserving their contributions to the art of tap.
